The Power of = the Resurrection

1.=       John 11:25-26 – Jesus is the resurrection and the life.

A.=      Easter combines pagan, Jewish & Christian belief.

·        The name “Easter” comes from the Anglo-SaxsonEastre= ”, a Teutonic goddess of spring & fertility.  Her celebration occurred in April = near the vernal equinox.

·        The Passover of the Jews.

·        The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

·        Some Christians celebrated Easter the first Sunday after Passover, and some on the day after Passover.  Constantine at the Council of Nicea in 325 decreed:

 

“The council unanimously ruled that the Easter festival should be celebrated throughout the Christian world on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox; and that if the fu= ll moon should occur on a Sunday and thereby coincide with the Passover festiv= al, Easter should be commemorated on the Sunday following.”  Microsoft Enca= rta Encyclopedia.
